MODx is 100% buzzword compliant, and makes child's play of building content managed sites with validating, accessible CSS layouts – hence the developers call it an AJAX CMS. It empowers its users to build engaging "Web 2.0" sites, with its pre-integrated Scriptaculous and Prototype libraries.
Techies call MODx a Content Management Framework ("CMF"): equal parts custom web app builder and Content Management System ("CMS"). With a flexible API and a robust event override system, MODx makes building engaging web projects straightforward — or changing core functionality without hacking the core code possible. Custom tweaks won't leave you pulling out your hair when it's time to upgrade.
Not only does MODx help developers build sites quickly, but it also is both robust and simple. As far as end-users know, MODx is just an easy-to-use online application; for developers there's freely available resources and a fantastic end-user community. MODx is open source, and the project website at http://modxcms.com/ offers fresh downloads and complete documentation.
Developers on Ajaxian.com, the popular forum for all that is AJAX, seem enthusiastic about MODx. Gonzalo, a developer, has this to say about MODx - “MODx is the Othello of CMSes: It can take a minute to learn, but a lifetime to master! No matter how often I review CMSes for various implementations I may have, I always find myself using MODx as a baseline. Designers will love it because you modify your existing HTML by simply dropping easy tags where content should go…your design is preserved! Content managers will love it because you can edit the content right on the page without even having to deal with a complicated backend manager if you so choose!”
