EMC Announces 15,000th Enterprise Content Management Customer at Momentum 2006

EMC Recognizes Defense Technical Information Center as Landmark Customer and Announces 'Designed for EMC' Award Recipients at An

ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 19 (MOMENTUM '06) /PRNewswire/ -- EMC Corporation, the world leader in information management and storage, today announced that it has secured the United States Department of Defense's Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) as its 15,000th enterprise content management (ECM) customer, further demonstrating EMC's position as the technology and market share leader in the ECM industry. Dave DeWalt, EMC's Executive Vice President and President of Customer Operations and Content Management Software, introduced the landmark customer during his keynote address at EMC's annual enterprise content management conference, Momentum.

"I'm very excited to announce the Defense Technical Information Center as EMC's 15,000th enterprise content management customer," said DeWalt in the keynote address. "This represents a significant milestone for us at a time when our position as the ECM market leader has also recently been confirmed by industry analyst IDC. In addition to being a milestone customer, DTIC also demonstrates the innovative ways customers leverage our unified ECM platform across their organizations."

DTIC collects and manages technical reports, studies, scientific research and a wide range of other documents for the Department of Defense (DoD). The organization serves as the centralized operation for acquiring, storing, retrieving and disseminating such documents and information to government personnel, contractors, potential contractors and the public. The EMC Documentum(R) platform will replace a home-built system that DTIC had been using to securely manage and store all the information. Millions of existing paper and digital documents, some more than three decades old, will be captured, managed and stored in the Documentum repository. DTIC selected the Documentum system due, in part, to its business process management, tracking and auditing capabilities, which will help the DTIC to control access to restricted information.

Chief Information Officer at DTIC, Carlynn Thompson, explained, "The ability to securely manage and archive information is critically important to the mission of the DTIC. We serve as the managed repository for scientific and technical information for the Department of Defense and ensure that the information is easily searchable and retrievable, while still maintaining control over who has access to the various security levels of the content. The DTIC is responsible for providing access to Department of Defense documents in a manner that prevents unnecessary or redundant research from being performed at taxpayer expense, while allowing the general public easy access to our publicly accessible collections."

Momentum 2006 is the year's largest gathering of key EMC software business partners and customers. More than 1,800 customers, prospects and partners are attending the conference to learn about ECM, imaging and recovery management solutions.

EMC Momentum User Conference

Taking place September 18-21, 2006, at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, this year's Momentum conference features a comprehensive agenda packed with more than 180 breakout sessions, in-depth technical presentations, product demonstrations, partner discussions, customer success case studies and information management fundamentals courses. For the first time, this year's event has been extended beyond content management to include coverage of EMC's archiving, recovery management and resource management solutions, demonstrating how a comprehensive and tightly integrated information infrastructure provides tremendous benefits to customers and partners.

As the largest gathering of EMC software business partners, Momentum 2006 includes top-level sponsors Burntsand, BEA Systems, Fujitsu Consulting, Adobe, Crown Partners, FCG and Hewlett-Packard. These and other vendors will demonstrate how their products and technologies complement and extend the EMC enterprise input and content management platform, EMC archiving solutions, EMC recovery management offerings and more.

In addition, EMC customers including Bank of America, Countrywide Financial Corporation, Ford Motor Company, McGraw-Hill Companies, Morgan Stanley, Pfizer, Wells Fargo and others will lead sessions describing and demonstrating the value of their EMC software deployments.

This year's event also highlights the second annual "Designed for EMC" awards, which recognize partners with the best Designed for EMC-accredited offerings built upon EMC software platforms. The Designed for EMC program includes the prestigious Designed for Documentum accredited solutions and has been expanded this year to include Designed for NetWorker(TM) accreditation.

After carefully evaluating more than 100 accredited offerings, EMC presented the "Designed for EMC Offering of the Year Award" to the Imagitek Prodagio Accounts Payable business suite for its high technical standards and excellent revenue contribution, built on the EMC Documentum platform.

The esteemed Designed for EMC accreditation signifies that partner offerings have met critical criteria to ensure they optimally integrate with and leverage EMC platform capabilities. A wide variety of partner offerings with Designed for EMC accredited status are available to customers; from invoice processing, business intelligence and collaboration solutions to imaging, loan processing, contracts management solutions and others. The accreditation ultimately benefits customers by enabling best-practice design and development, speeding deployment, reducing administration and upgrade costs, and creating a simpler migration path when upgrading versions.

The construction management firm Washington Group International is one company experiencing the benefits of leveraging one of the 2006 Designed for EMC award-winning offerings. "We selected McLaren Software's Enterprise Engineer suite because it gives us the ability to rapidly implement best practices and standardize work flows and underlying business rules to securely manage our engineering content on an enterprise scale," said Gary Visco, Corporate Director of Business Support Services at Washington Group International. "Being 'Designed for EMC' accredited assured us that Enterprise Engineer would allow us to fully leverage our EMC Documentum platform."

Additional Designed for EMC awards presented at Momentum included "Best Vertical Offering," awarded to Enterprise Engineer by McLaren; "Best New Offering," awarded to FAVORIT OfficeFlow by Bundesverwaltungsamt and implemented by gedas; and "Best Utilization of Platform by a Partner Offering," awarded to OPIDIS by Artesys.

When Enterprises started adopting Hadoop-based Big Data environments over the last ten years, they were mainly on-premise deployments. The growth of cloud storage, cloud-managed big data e...
