Telecom equipment maker Ericsson recently released its projected global 4G trend for the next five years.  It is predicted 65 percent of the global population will be covered by 4G networks by 2019, with Northeast Asian users approaching one billion, and Chinese users accounting for close to 700 million.  Read Original Content

Finally confirming the long rumored deal with China Mobile, Apple has announced it plans to start offering the iPhone on China Mobile’s network beginning January 17, 2014.  Read Original Content

China Mobile’s 2014 net profit is predicted to drop three percent due to the government’s planned reduction in interconnection fees that smaller carriers pay.  Analysts say the move by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will help smaller players gain more resources to roll out 4G networks.  Read Original Content

China’s Huawei Technologies and Australian mobile operator Optus were able to deliver peak speeds of 160 Mbps on Optus’ TD-LTE network due to the deployment of carrier aggregation.  Read Original Content

Hong Kong mobile network operator HKT will acquire CSL New World Mobility, a subsidiary of Australian network operator Telstra for a reported $2.42 billion.  Read Original Content

In a move to “strongly encourage private investment, spur creativity and competition in the telecommunications sector”, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology awarded licenses to 11 private enterprises to sell mobile services.  The licenses enable the firms to lease mobile communication services from bigger companies who have their own networks, repackage them and sell them to users.  Read Original Content

Broadband coverage in Chinese villages has increased from 88 percent at the beginning of 2013 to 91 percent.  The three major Chinese telecom operators have invested over one billion U.S. dollars this year in villages.  Read Original Content
