Mobile Commerce News Weekly – Week of January 12, 2014

The Mobile Commerce News Weekly is an online newsletter made up of the most interesting news, articles and links related to mobile commerce and marketing, mobile payments, mobile money, e-wallets, mobile banking, mobile ads and mobile security that I run across each week.  I am specifically targeting market size and market trend information.

Fiserv's 2013 Billing Household Survey has revealed significant growth in U.S. consumers paying bills from smartphones and tablets. The U.S.-based financial services technology firm said mobile bill payment usage doubled from eight million U.S. online households in 2012 to 16 million in 2013. Read Original Content

BI Intelligence has recently reported the number of U.S. smartphone users using mobile coupons has increased dramatically — from 7.4 million in 2010 to 29.5 million in 2012. This year that number is expected to surge to 47.1 million. Read Original Content

More than $115 in retail payments will be spent using mobile handsets and tablets for every man, woman and child on the planet by 2018. At least that is the prediction of Juniper Research, which recently estimated more than $700 billion in retail payments will be spent using these mobile devices by that time. Read Original Content

One-fifth of U.S. smartphone owners used a mobile wallet in 2013. That comes out to 40 million Americans, according to Parks Associates. The market research firm forecasts this number will grow 183 percent to 113 million, or 43 percent of smartphone owners, by 2017. Read Original Content

New data from payments specialist WorldPay has found airlines are keen to enhance their focus on mobile and improve their payments services. Fifty-seven percent of airlines believe mobile devices have the greatest potential to drive revenue in the next two years, which is level with credit cards – also on 57 percent. E-Complish has announced a major increase in mobile payment inquiries and transactions through 2013. Tracking the data over the previous two years, they have seen a 215 percent increase in mobile payment inquiries in 2013 compared to 2012. Read Original Content
